Zohran winning outright in a major election gives me hope that maybe our current election system isn’t entirely screwed and that maybe positive change in this nation can occur without necessitating a complete overhaul of our electoral process.
Even with the entire deck stacked against him, with billionaires spending millions on his opponent, with every major news outlet fear mongering about his religion or background or socialist beliefs, he managed to win, because he proved his worth by meeting New Yorkers on the streets, in their homes, at their churches and mosques, at sports games, and at social gatherings. Everywhere he went he asked everyday people “What are the struggles you face as a New Yorker, and how can the government help resolve or ease those burdens?” Then he laid out a clear, concise plan to fund practical solutions. His policies can and will make life objectively, measurably easier for New Yorkers.
Every politician should learn from his example. He ran a flawless campaign. Thanks to him I’m optimistic about the direction of American politics and the electability of progressive policies again.
on top of it all, he’s also hot as hell
“he will objectively life easier for New Yorkers” (I know not exact wording) no he won’t objectively do that
cheaper living costs, cheaper and more efficient public transit, and free pre-k objectively will but ok bro
People who use “objectively” for subjective things or things we don’t know are so fucking annoying. We don’t know if that will happen.
considering these same policies are tried and true and are shown to directly correlate to quality of life and happiness, it’s far more objective than you make it out to be. obviously there’s a chance it either doesn’t end up implemented or something goes wrong, but if they go into effect the way they’re planned to, saying they will ‘objectively’ help isn’t at all an inaccurate statement. pedants are far more annoying than people who use a word in a somewhat correct fashion tbh
if anything the word you should be pedantic about is my use of saying ‘will’ so definitively. You’re right, I don’t know exactly what will happen, but god forbid I look on the bright side of things and make a hopeful prediction. If you’re gonna be a pedant at least be correct about which word you’re being pedantic about, geez
Holy yap. You said “His policies can and will make life objectively, measurably easier for New Yorkers.” which isn’t true since he hasn’t really started. It could all go to shit with his policies and all end in tears when we gets going
the world could also turn into pudding!! we never know!! literally what is your point here? that i’m making a subjective prediction? im well aware there’s a chance, but the whole post is about how i’m feeling optimistic and am pretty confident in his policies. you’re literally just an old man yelling at a cloud rn. how dare I have optimism about tried and tested policies that have worked well in the past and have hope that people’s live improve
the world will not turn into pudding. I think that could be proven to be scientifically possible. What is not impossible is Mandani failing about being a good New York mayor. Saying stuff like “Mandani will make life better!” when he’s barely started is incorrect and is just being biased (and my god holy glaze at the end of your post)
“you’re literally just an old man yelling at a cloud rn.” Some decent ragebait from you, would give it a 5/10. If Mandani’s ambitious policies all go to shit than I will point and laugh at you. If not than fair play to you.
I agree, other elections seem to have also went down democrat. I wouldn'tve been too surprised by the results if they were 3 years ago but this is nice to see now
(of course this has less to do with your point on moderate dems but it's also good to see normally blue states vote blue by large margins unlike 2024 I think)
Isn’t New York a super democrat state though?
yes, but he won the race against a very moderate democrat, who would typically be the exact kind of candidate then tends to win despite all odds since he doesn’t threaten the status quo with his policies. think back to 2016 when Hillary won the democratic nomination over Bernie. Zohran’s win is an indicator that milquetoast, pro-establishment moderate democrats are their edge to more progressive candidates, finally. Those very same moderate dems have been floundering for decades, have been completely ineffective against trump’s fascism, and ultimately care more about their own pockets than improving society for everyone. I’m saying that it gives me hope to see those candidates finally losing to socialists. It’s an indictor that the public is A) anti facism and B) finally waking up to the reality that current dems aren’t doing enough. the democratic party needs to treat this as a wake up call and stop throwing themselves behind unpopular, nondisruptive candidates
Oh i see, i assume he went up against a republican cause I’m so used to it being two parties 😭
I don’t really care what happens in new york personally, but I love outsiders sticking it to the establishment and it’s romantic from the American dream perspective that anyone can get elected with enough hard work even if you’re against tough odds. And yeah maybe he is cute which doesn’t hurt when every other candidate is 900 years old.
This election needs to be a wake up call to both sides (and I say all of this without endorsing any side or policy, just commenting on the situation because again I do not care what new york does lol)
They need to pay very close attention to why populism works so well right now and if they’re worried about socialism, stop creating the environment for it to take hold and start working on actually helping the people that elect you
real and true, im mostly saying that these results gave me hope that NYC is just the starting point for more progressive candidates to gain serious momentum and that establishment democrats are on their way out
every time i hear zohran’s name i think about that time fox news accidentally created a ton of support for him when they attempted to fearmonger his policies but when they actually listed his planned changes they were all good things like “reduced housing cost” and “lgbtq hate speech protection”
also yes he is very attractive
