The Kievan Rus was not Ukraine, it was nor Russia nor Poland. Kiev belonged to many nations, just because it has “Kiev” in it doesnt make it Ukrainian. The Kievan Rus was the only unified Slavic kingdom. Hence, Ukraine has never had a country up until 1900s when Soviet planners drew borders for them.
