I always heard it was about a Christian guy in ancient Rome called Valentine who helped people get illegally* married 🤔

*(by roman law, the emperor guy thought single bros fought in the army better like what)

Oh yeah that’s also part of it, all of Christianity used to be one denomination (Catholicism, everything split in the 1500s) (none of the other denominations do saints except Orthodox but they also broke off of Catholicism) and he helped with that but was caught and martyred for his faith. The day itself is his feast day
