virginia?
proposed redistricting map
that is annoying why would anyone think that’s a good idea lol
the idea is to counterbalance texas and whoever else is trying to skew stuff for the midterms but in practice it’s just undemocratic and it’s going to deny a lot of people (including me) representation from where they actually live. We put an amendment in the state constitution to prevent maps like this so this would be overturning that too and it has potential to cause a lot of problems down the road
I heard that, when adding numbers, two negatives make a positive!!
That’s exactly right!
I kind of disagree. To be entirely honest, as a Texan democrat myself, I think that redistricting should be banned everywhere, but if Texas is going to do it, there should be a counter-balance somewhere in the company, or Texas will just keep doing it. And before you say it, I KNOW Texas wouldn’t stop because Greg Abbott is an evil far-right, islamophobic, racist asshole who doesn’t care about the safety and lives of Texans, and only cares about how much money he makes without even PRETENDING like he cares, while still somehow getting re-elected every two years because Republicanism/Conservatism in the United States, ESPECIALLY IN TEXAS is a literal cult.
It’s not going to stop texas or make them regret anything though, it’s only going to make things worse in other places. This is going to basically mean that 5/11 of our representation will come from only one urban area (greater DC metro) which really doesn’t feel healthy or fair. In this current political moment I might prefer to have a democrat representative sure, and I would love if congress was functional and had a spine, but I also want someone who actually represents where I live. For my area specifically this will mean we can get ignored because we’re not necessary for getting elected and our needs and culture are different from where our representative would come from (some of the richest counties in the country). I’m worried about the potential impacts on future elections. I really wish the supreme court had struck all this down, its so stupid that this is happening mid decade
All districts should be parallel to the 0 degree line of latitude, checkmate
nah have them go along longitude, get some nice curves going in the north
This is an actual constitutional amendment a classmate of mine is pitching
The future is bright
