actually managing your own domain rather than relying on some random subdomain provided by [insert favourite free service here] is quite difficult.
how so? like renewing?
setting up dns to point to the correct thing, with tls working, was just a bit of a pain - but I think a lot of that pain was just because of how Fastly does stuff, which sseems quite complicated and not very well documented to me. Also I didn't really know what I was doing, so the difference between CNAME/ALIAS/A/AAAA records took me a while to get my head around. Even now that I've got things working, it doesn't work if I change my secure DNS settings in my browser to something differnt… and I have no idea how to diagnose the issue. So it's a mix of lack of knowledge/understanding and potentially partly Fastly's fault.
hopefully renewal should be easy, porkbun seems to be quite easy to use
ah i see. yeah i agree that dns in general is really confusing at first. but once you get it working, it’s fairly set-and-forget. i think the biggest issue is caching makes it hard to see if your changes are working
yes hopefully i never need to worry about it again. other than paying for renewal :(
got my own domain on namecheap and it's a set and forget soo
