Many disagreed with my last post. I understand y’all and I was worried personally about the post. However, his death did actually make me think and I believe my thoughts are respectful and the type of thing he and his family would want said about him at his death. I only posted it because I actually felt that.

It's not me being a salesman using a sad situation to guilt people into believing my religion. I genuinely think that:

1) Charlie would support me saying that (which I believe makes it respectful) and

2) Our need for Christ is the highest thing, above anything else, and so I must share it or my priorities would be misaligned. I just want to clear that up.

I think that including my own story could have been a good example, but it probably went too far and made it too self-centered.

Sorry to those I offended. I do grieve for his family and those around him who are suffering, and should have emphasized that in the post. But I think the core message was respectful to him and he would agree.

redstrider:

i thought your post was fine but you should've made it clear that it was just your thoughts. i think what people didn't like was it kinda just felt like you were inserting yourself into something to push a message.

Yeah that’s fair. I think I said it the wrong way. I was rushed in writing it.

I feel like the reason the post rubbed so many people the wrong way is that it had next to nothing to do with what happened. It felt like you were derailing the conversation to talk about yourself and your religion.

Yeah, that’s fair.

Maybe I should have said it a different way or not said it at all

And like I said the story about myself was probably not the play, it was probably the worst part of the post

I still think the core message - of not knowing when we will die and needing Christ for hope - is relevant to the situation though. But I understand why others don’t see it the same way

I will keep the post up for history’s sake - whether it was good or bad I don’t want to cover it up.
