This classified advertisement in a magazine is what I believe to have been my first encounter with the Pokémon franchise, and one of the reasons why I chose Pokémon Legends: Arceus as my entry point into the fandom. The copyright notice at the bottom of the page is dated 2009, and the other advertisements in the magazine, both classified and integrated, suggest that it was from the transition between the 3DS and the Wii. And after searching up this card collection, its release date aligns with the copyright year. My consensus is that these magazines were outdated by almost a decade when I first read them. Unless . . ?
2009 was about two years before B/W released, and Platinum was already out a year earlier, and P/D were around two years old by that point. there’ve been almost 5 major releases since that ad saw publication.
(there also wasn’t really much of a transition, either - the DS and Wii were companion platforms, similar to how the Wii U and 3DS were. the Switch was the first Nintendo console in a really long time to not have a companion console, since it’s a handheld/home hybrid. i have to meet the pedantism quota lol)
The switch launched more as a companion to itself cause of bigger connectivity
