man i wish stories used mysteries as something better than just “we’re resolving this in a DLC or next part” only to then create more and more, and literally nobody talks about it, just points out the writer, but not the fact that it’s genuinely an issue imho
i get it’s good for money (and that’s the intent at times) but having seen this type of mystery happen for so long is honestly so irritating. leaves asking more questions than answered which just gives for a sequel and further down.
heck, mysteries like these are often used as a way to keep the game relevant instead of actually have a story which then ends up breaking every bone in every limb because you can’t tie things together or they become too complicated (looking at you, franchise that should’ve ended with the 3rd game but was continued out of spite (FNaF)).
i know stories were never really used as anything other than as purpose to
(a) sell a game
(b) drive the game development
(c) actually tell a story
and it just hurts seeing it all be option A. i get games that don’t need a story, but when each game or whatever you’re doing has a mystery, then asks another question, answers it the next, but asks a different one, that’s frankly not a story. that’s clearly just cashgrabbing.
and it just hurts seeing that people genuinely, after still all these years, keeps jumping down the hole instead of stopping and going “wait, this is a pattern”.
rant ending… anger rising… character limit breathing down my neck
