I'm thinking of making my old laptop a server. If I do, does anyone have any recommendations for what to do with it?

Yeah, I was looking into Minecraft server. The only downside is that I don't know how to not have it be my IP

you could probably install proxmox to it, but if you do that you should probably get a wired connection to it via ethernet. with proxmox, you can make vms in windows or whatever linux distro you want to mess with, and install things like pi-hole and other stuff.

you can also make lxc containers which run linux but use significantly less RAM than a VM.
