does the iphone 14/15's ‘always-on display’ serve any useful purpose?

I guess it’s useful for when you have it out on your desk & can just glance at it to see the time.

However, have you noticed that Apple likes to release special hardware features on the pro-model iPhones before putting the feature on all iPhones in the next generation?
