wasteof.money officially launched 1 year ago! here are some wasteof facts:
wasteof.money officially “launched” a year ago today (12th june 2021), but there was a development version that goes back further (around the 11th of november 2020).
that version, named wasteof.money never was properly launched, and was only accessible through dev.wasteof.money. the database was wiped several times since it launched, but i have a backup of the last version of the site before it shut down.
fun fact: wasteof.money was actually open source: https://github.com/jeffalo/wasteof.money
eventually, i rewrote the entire site with a better codebase and more modern UI, named wasteof2. it started fresh with a new database, a year ago, and is likely what you’re using to read this post!
the next version of wasteof.money will be wasteof3, which shares a database schema to wasteof2 (no data will be lost), and is currently accessible at beta.wasteof.money. once it reaches full feature parity and is tested enough, it will replace wasteof2.
and some news regarding the site:
i am leaving for a trip starting on the 13th of june, and ending on the 17th. until then, i will not be able to access the internet, so i have added a new admin, @rirurin to take care of the site temporarily. thanks @rirurin!
i have got the new server working (long story short, i actually did receive the correct configuration from the ebay seller, but the server didn’t realize that the components changed 🤦♂️).
wasteof.money will likely move to the new server soon, and hopefully this should allow for a better performing site.
