It’s interesting how hearing a word in a different language you don’t speak can make it much more or less intimidating than it actually is

Like mosquitoes, my thoughts were, the first time I’ve heard it, “What’s a moss-kwee-toe? Eh, probably some extremely poisonous animal you can only really find in deserts”. Yeah, not quite.

Or rabies, where I thought “The dog’s got raw-bees? Oh, that must be some very common thing that every dog goes through once.” …Certainly not.

These are the only examples I can come up with at the top of my head, but I’m sure there’s much more. It’s very intriguing.
